We say: Merely a Change in Point of View

Two different television programs are given here. In which they share some videos which can be titled as 'funny videos'- according to the trend that we see in AD 2015

Modi Responds To Girl's Letter, 'Saves' Her Life

It’s been a piece of news recently(23/05/'15) that the letter of 8 years old Tayyaba and
Mr. Modi’s response to it.

The news said she needed money of 15 to 20 lakhs of Indian rupee for her heart surgery that wasn’t affordable by the family who falls below poverty line. And on getting the letter Mr. Modi took immediate action that the Govt. assured all the expense that she needed. And news says our PM is great, generous…

But do you expect an 'average' family who falls above the poverty line can afford the cost?!

Go through the given Indian Income Pyramid. 997 Million Of our population certainly can’t afford a cost like this. And we have similar Tayyabas quiet a lot! Everyone has the right to live.

If we have ENOUGH hospitals in PUBLIC SECTOR with these facilities (in fact we have a few say Medical Colleges) in low cost (have also been achieved,
eg:http://www.surgeryinindia.in/heart-surgery-in-india.php ,http://www.sctimst.ac.in/FAQs/ (question 8)) there wouldn’t have been such a hot news for media!...

The ‘depth’ of tradition & morality!

It is not at all good; the concept of love marriage. We should respect our parents also TRADITION. Whatever they do will be good for us. My parents went her home, came back and said they liked her. Then only I went and saw her. Even then I never contacted/met her without informing my parents…

Though in arranged marriage cases most of them contact and meet each other nowadays-before marriage. We never did so. We didn’t know our cell phone numbers each other before marriage… I respect our TRADITION

Doubter: So what really is our tradition, I don't understand?!!! should we collect more statements?

It’s NOT about ‘India’s Daughter’

It really was a hot topic for the media (or rather the folk) for a few days the BBC documentary ‘India’s Daughter’; wasn’t it? Some were angry about the ‘Indian culture’, some towards ’Indian Govt.’, ‘BBC for generalizing a psycho’s opinion as a nation’s culture’ also ‘for projecting it as India’s problem whereas UK itself has more crime rate towards females’ so on… and now everyone forgot it as a dream

[For those who haven’t come across the documentary; search for 'India's Daughter-BBC documentary' ]

I’m angry with the advocate because; how could an educated person like him say so?!

Why not?! Why one’s education would stops him from his opinion or attitude?

But the thing is how could an educated person think like there is nothing wrong with the inequality and moreover it is our culture! Even school children know that inequality is wrong…

Why would education bring him back from his beliefs/ cultural biasing?

Then what is the purpose of education?! Here he sticks to his belief even after all these education…Don’t you see how education changes one’s belief to an enquiring attitude?

Yes I do; but to what extend?
Let me ask you a few questions… do you believe in the Theory of Evolution? Why?

Yes, because we have a lot of evidences for example fossils which validates the theory…

But did you notice that there are plenty of ecology students in our institution itself, who publish research papers on the validity of theory of evolution but believe that God is the reason for whatever happens?

Yes, so?

We know the equation of motion for a rocket to be launched still why do the scientists go to church or temple before they launch it?

Though I believe in evolution I don’t deny the existence of God because there should’ve been something to get evolved… where did it came from?

See, they don’t even believe in theory of evolution but you do; whereas both of you know there are scientifically valid results like fossils as you mentioned earlier.
Would you be saying the same reasoning if you never have been exposed to the concept God?

I don’t know…

Doubter : To what extend rationality can replace an individual’s belief by education?

Health for sale!

She went to change her specs lenses. She demanded an anti-reflection coating lens.
They showed her pictures of two lenses; she asked what the difference is?
They said, ‘the one more costly has a better quality…’
They added ‘it has international quality’ (!!!)

The more you spend money, better the healthcare you get!

Doubter: this time I’m not a doubter. I think privatization creates a huge inequality in healthcare sector! Everyone should be treated equally at least in education and healthcare sectors… Everyone should get the best…

A Rethinking on Education

What can be called as education? ‘Apparently’, educating someone a piece of knowledge.

What we see is generally children do nothing particular up to 3 or 4 years after birth. Then with a certain outfit they go somewhere called ‘school’. Where they suddenly get exposed NEWLY to specific terms like science, social science, language, experiments, homework, and EXAMS etc without even knowing what they are, what they are for, why do we hear it (rather than ‘learn’ it).
They go on with the same subject and learning structure for the next 12 years. By then they categorize subjects into easy, tough, good, bad, great, good for nothing, useful, idle. They categorize themselves into mainly intelligent or imbecile and they assign characters for each category. What intelligent people would do, would be interested in, what subject they must (rather than would) choose next (in brief THEY GET BIASED). In the next level -for us HSS- they will label them permanently into science, humanities or commerce stream; according to their so called intelligence (I don’t generalize it since there are a lot of students who chase their interests than what they are told; but this is the TREND seen).
Hence in the queue for further studies if at all a person with more than ~90% mark chooses a subject like history, biology, language or politics the immediate questions he/she faces are ‘you have good marks, why do you choose so?’, ‘why don’t you choose engineering or medicine, you are intelligent’ so on!
Why is it so? Don’t we need ‘intelligent’ people to guide our upcoming neutrino observatory? , to investigate geographical structures and hence agriculture? , to change political system according to the era? , to control train?, to care about needs of people?, to teach the next generation?, for a creative art form???
How do we reduce the discrepancy in the value/position/ respect given to engineering and history? Both deal entirely different ideas so how do we even compare both in terms of value/position! Don’t they have unique properties of their own?

That’s when I started thinking about a ‘new’ ‘school education system’, modifying the existing one. Certainly the existing education systems like DPEP, SSA are appreciative. Still how about an alternative way of learning/educating children?

Now we have 5 sections as KG,LP,UP,HS,HSS (with a term 2,4,3,3,2 years) in the new section we will have 4 sections. Briefly it looks like this (The term is not mentioned).

In the 1st section we (students) do not study ‘subjects’ but an idea -how do we analyse things scientifically, various experiments, data collection and transforming it into an informative form (it includes languages, literature, science, environment, life skills etc). (Say ask children; to collect stones-if stone A is more similar to stone B than stone C-What made you think so?- the properties-where do you find it-how often you find it). Also we could have a section for thought experiments.

2nd section: we sort things into various ‘subjects’ depending on gadgets needed for studying, objects/ideas we deal with, say art, science, literature, life skills and so on. Each could have subcategories. (if you have stone, water, leaves ask them to categorize in all possible ways –with explanation- it could be stone, water, leaves together forming earthly materials (geography/agriculture) or leaves and stone water being alive and not alive (biology) or leaves and stone together then water since solid and liquid (physics/chemistry))

3rd: we study those subject as we have in UP and HS right now. Additionally camps/seminars held by scientists in which they will learn more about science, social science etc via games or tours or random walks (say, a walk to a mountain could help them to learn about the formations of rocks with the help of a geologist)

4th: we take majors minors (provided certain conditions like, a person who takes physics must take mathematics also); where we won’t have groups like science or humanities, so that a person who learns physics can also have history as a minor subject.

Then further higher studies…
